Thank you to Scholastic for the ARC received during ALA LibLearnX！A great glimpse into Colin Kaepernick's high school years， particularly his senior year as he tried to decide whether he'd play football or baseball after graduation。 Racism and microaggressions abound， with Colin's parents making comments about his hair and girls he dates， the "n" word used in the school halls and other parents calling black players "beasts" or other animals。 Colin's journey coming into his own and making his own Thank you to Scholastic for the ARC received during ALA LibLearnX！A great glimpse into Colin Kaepernick's high school years， particularly his senior year as he tried to decide whether he'd play football or baseball after graduation。 Racism and microaggressions abound， with Colin's parents making comments about his hair and girls he dates， the "n" word used in the school halls and other parents calling black players "beasts" or other animals。 Colin's journey coming into his own and making his own decisions will appeal to many readers who are trying to make similar choices in their own lives。 The ending felt unfortunately rushed， though the illustrations were rather rough in the ARC by then， so perhaps that added to the unfinished quality。 I wish there'd been a bit more about Colin telling his parents he'd picked football and how they reacted。 Really I'd have liked more about his relationship with his family in general。 They are painted in a loving， but often pressuring force in his life。 I'll look forward to seeing a finished version。 This will be a must buy for middle schools and high schools I think， though might apply most to high schoolers striving to navigate college/post graduation life。 。。。more
